About

http://www.dalitnetwork.org DALIT FREEDOM NETWORK Richlend Sister NGO Sponsor a Dalit Child today at www.dalitchild.com Dalit Freedom Network, 5350 S. Roslyn St., Ste. 450, Greenwood Village, CO 80111 USA 303-221-1333 toll free 866-921-1333 The Dalit people of India are victims of centuries-long, socially-sanctioned bigotry. The Dalits, numbering 250-300 million, are those the Hindu caste system designates as "low" or "backward" caste. Because of their low social standing, affluent parts of society deny Dalits basic human rights. As a result of this discrimination, Dalits suffer socially, economically, and spiritually. Unable to access education, and because of the social stigma of "untouchability", society forces Dalits to take low-paying jobs providing an inadequate income. They cannot afford food, clothing and shelter. They cannot afford medical care. They cannot afford an education. Society denies Dalits human rights and shackles Dalits to a social and religious system that removes personal freedom. A central office in Denver, Colorado, acts as the hub to connect the people and finances to the areas of need in India. DFN, working in partnership with the All India Christian Council, responds to the requests of the Dalit community. Dalit leaders come together from all parts of India to strategically identify the greatest areas of need. They are primarily requesting high quality English-medium schools for their children. Aid in Motion Dubai Kenya

http://www.aidinmotion.com Lola Lopez launched Aid in Motion following the 2008 post election violence which tore through rural communities and displaced hundreds of thousands of people in Kenya. Wanting to do something for those living in affected regions, she started a small clothing drive in her community. That small clothing drive rapidly turned into 70,000 kg of clothing. This fueled her passion to see an end to needless poverty and brought her to the realisation that the GCC had both the resources and desire to give but no channels through which to do so. Seeing an opportunity to meet this need and the needs of those less fortunate, Lola focused her energy on founding AIM. She has left a successful career history in Aviation and Formula One Engineering, and now uses these skills to head up the logistics, fund raising and marketing of Aid in Motion Cigdem personally meet with Lola in her residence in Dubai UAE (December 2008 ) and realy impressed how the residence can be piled up with the clothes aimed to be sent to poor kids at Kenya .

Mewa

http://www.mewa.or.ke/edu_board.htm Educational Sponsorship and bursaries MEWA was established on a platform of education. The pioneers of MEWA having seen the declining educational performance of the Muslim students in the late 80’s resolved to establish intervention programme with one of them being supporting poor students accessing education in Secondary and Higher Institutes of learning. More than Kshs. 8,000,000 has so far been advanced to over 500 students to pursue degree and diploma courses in local Universities and colleges locally and abroad between the years 1986 and 2006. Most of these students are now working in different professional fields such as Medicine, Law, Engineering, Teaching etc. MEWA has also assisted over 800 poor but talented students Secondary students to pay their school fees thanks to the generosity of our well-wishers. The Association now seeks to create a revolving fund to sponsor students for degrees and postgraduate studies either locally or abroad. It also aims to solicit scholarships from Universities abroad and donors for our local needy but talented youth.

CCFID

CCFID has made a modest beginning with its work with children with two initiatives – one promotion of child rights and quality education in 20 Government schools in Cuddalore district and second direct intervention in supporting construction of a Pre-school (Anganwadi) affected by tsunami. Children form one of the key target groups for CCFID and the organisation will endeavour to support this group with an aim that that they can excel not only in academics, but groom to be a fearless and enlightened citizen. Sports is another aspect that CCFID promotes amongst youth, this includes providing technical mentoring services and equipments and infrastructure to get the right training and exposure. Community Collective Society for Integrated Development (CCFID) started its development activities in Cuddalore district in September 2007. In February 2007 CCFID visited Panankattu Colony and found that the Anganwadi school (Pre-School) was damaged and not in use. Thirty school children - girls and boys in the age group 2-3 years attended the school. The village community requested CCFID to support for reconstructing a new school building. The residents of Panankattu colony belong to Scheduled Caste community and there are about 100 families. The community members both men and women are engaged in labour activities for which they get a daily wage of Rs80-100. Some men also work as labour for sea fishing. More than 72% of the parents are illiterate. The Pre School was constructed by the Government in the year 1980 and the structural damage was caused by the tsunami waves. The children were placed in temporary shelter for the pre school education. But this structure was in place only for 8 months and got damaged due to heavy rain. The damaged structure was pulled down by CCFID and new structure is in progress in the same location. The construction activity is now complete. With the new school building we expect to meet the community need to have a safe learning space for their children. The intervention is equally significant for CCFID with its commitment to work for children and their rights. CCFID http://www.ccfid.org.in/Initatives.htm
